Sir,
I am directed by Mr Secretary mery to
transmit to you, to be laid before the Lords Commis-
sioners of the Admiralty, the accompanying copy of a
despatch (with enclosures) from the Governor of Hong
Kong in regard to the house "Marble Hall", the residence
of the late Sir Paul Chater, Kt.,C.M.G. in Hong Kong
which has been bequeathed to the Government of the
Colony.

Mr Amery would be glad to learn whether Their
Lordships wish to avail themselves of the Governor's
offer to assign the house for use as a residence for
the Commander-in-Chief of the China Squadron on the
conditions set out in paragraph 5 of his despatch.
